Founded in 2019 by Emma Allen, Hammett is an online collection of thoughtfully selected, one-of-a-kind gifts and pieces for the home. Hammett’s name and defining spirit are an ode to Emma’s grandmother Ann Hammett Gant, a Southern lady known for her impeccable taste, sharp wit, and smart wardrobe. Tucked in the hallway of Ann’s home was her infamous Gift Closet, a tiny, reach-in nook with whitewashed wooden shelves. The Gift Closet and its contents were the stuff of legend and lore in the family, a physical embodiment of Ann’s devotion to hospitality and keen instincts. Ann kept the Gift Closet stocked with special items destined for the importantpeople in her life—petite picture frames, fine linens and soaps, classic toys, and freshly scented candles, to name a few. Whomever the recipient, whatever the occasion, an impeccably suited gift lived on the shelves of the Gift Closet—along with paper, scissors, and tape to wrap the gift with care.

We like to think of Hammett as a Gift Closet of sorts—always stocked with memorable pieces for your home and distinctive gifts for the people you love. Our aim is to source inimitable wares you won’t find other places. Rare and often made by hand, the items in our collection are at once refined, approachable, and functional for modern homes and busy lives. Meet Emma Allen

Hammett Founder and Owner Emma Allen was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. After studying Interior Design at the University of Alabama, Emma began her career as a wedding and event planner before returning to design and launching Hammett in 2019. Hammett was born from Emma’s talent for sourcing lovely, one-of-a-kind decor, linens, and gifts from all over the world. She has a penchant for everyday revelry, for making memories with loved ones over good food and drink—and the collection’s robust tableware line is a celebration of these special moments, the culmination of Emma’s years planning weddings and parties. Emma’s aesthetic—marked by unexpected amalgamations and the layering of traditional and contemporary, high and low, eras and origins—functions as a throughline for the collection and a guide for Hammett clients as they shop for their own homes and loved ones. Emma lives in Birmingham with her husband Pritchard and beloved golden retriever Brinkley.
